Happy cooking, baking and swapping!

To get the swap started, here’s our nut-free recipe for traditional holiday cut-out cookies:

Nut-free SunButter holiday cookies.

Ingredients

1/2 cup SunButter (we used creamy)

1/3 cup brown sugar

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1 egg (or egg substitute)

1 Tbsp. water

3/4 tsp. baking soda

1/8 tsp. lemon juice

½ c. cornstarch

3/4 cup flour (or white rice flour for gluten-free)

More flour for rolling

Sprinkles, decorator icing and other decorations

Directions:

Combine SunButter, sugars and egg. Add water and lemon juice and mix. In another bowl, combine baking soda, cornstarch and flour, then add to other mixture and combine all together. Cover and refrigerate at least 30 minutes. Roll out dough on floured surface with flour-coated rolling pin, cut into shapes and place on parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Bake 8 – 10 minutes. Cool for 1 – 2 minutes on sheet, then remove and cool completely. Decorate.

For decorator icing, we used milk and powdered sugar, and natural food coloring such as pureed broccoli (green), beets (red) and blueberries (blue).

A few even survived to get baked (which makes them less chewy but easier to pack for on-the-go snacks!).
